Students/interns - Student Researcher Mood Detection (Bachelor/ Master Thesis) (m/f/d)

Intern / Student · München

About us

tacterion is a high-tech startup based in Munich and was founded in 2015 as a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). tacterion develops and markets a unique sensor technology called sensorskin. Based on our sensorskin technology, plyon® is our first product platform. It combines a highly flexible sensory layer that measures interaction and pressure on any surface with algorithms to understand how users interact with it. This patented technology was originally developed for robotics and provides the sense of touch for products and machines. tacterion’s sensitive surface layers enable the next generation of truly interactive and responsive products.

Why we need you
World-leading companies approach us as partners for novel products and services in the areas of human machine interaction. We are looking for a student researcher who wants to write his/ her final thesis (bachelor or master) at tacterion and push the boundaries of what is possible today. With your drive, engineering ingenuity, and hands-on attitude you will work on key developments together with our engineers.
What to expect
tacterion is more than a sensor company. You will be supported by our Lead Engineers that bring plenty of experience in embedded-system engineering and hardware-level programming. Our maker space will be your home to work on your thesis. Mood detection is a trending field in the area of human-machine interaction. As student researcher, your task will be to advance the ability of plyon technology to detect the current mood of the users. With our support, your task will be to develop a prototype and evaluate it in an experiment with test users. This will require experience in embedded systems programming as well as analysis of analog data signals. In addition, experience with pattern-analysis (e.g., using machine learning models) will be of great help. Given our history as DLR spin-off, we are academically prepared to supervise your thesis and ensure that you not only work on an exciting topic, but also manage to hand in excellent work.
